The Village Voice Party has not forgotten our active duty servicemen and women who are currently serving overseas in Iraq and Afghanistan. To show our community appreciation for all that they sacrifice and do we are taking up a collection of items to send troops deployed from Illinois. If you would like to participate please come into our headquarters at 7900 S 87th Avenue in Justice to speak to someone for more information. The following is a list of some of the items that can be sent over seas and have been requested by servicemen in care packages.
Male/Female Hygiene items: toothpaste, deodorant, toothbrushes, feminine hygiene items, body wash, razors, bar soap, q-tips, baby wipes, combs, dental floss, nail clippers.
Food related items: Ramen noodles, easy mac, beef jerky, slim jims, nuts, gum, small bags of snack chips, Pringles, pop corn, candy bars, flavor additive for bottled water, tea bags, granola bars, protein bars, dried fruits, tuna fish.
Entertainment items: paperback books, dvds, cds, magazines, games, puzzle books. (These items do not have to be new, but just in fairly clean condition and the magazines semi recent).
Misc: Pens, paper, envelopes, items with American flags on them, greeting cards and small stuffed animals, beanie babies (new/used but clean) to hand out to local children.
Also, one of the most requested items is a letter written to the service person telling them you appreciate them and a little about what’s going on back in the US.
