Truly, what is a mayor, trustee, or clerk? My opinion; they are a servant to the community and when peeled to the core, they are a customer service representative, hired by the community to make choices that are in the COMMUNITY’S best interest. From the time I could really understands and grasp the complexity of the politics that take place within the Village of Justice (say around 1993) I have seen the political pendulum swing from one side to the other, over and over. When will it stop? Decisions being made based on what is best for the board, NOT the taxpayers that put them in their seats, has to end. There is a quote by L.L. Bean Cardo I have used several times in my profession which speaks about servicing your customer. Simply remove the word customer and insert voter, and you get a powerful statement that the Village Board, regardless of who they are, should understand and work by: A voter is the most important person ever whether in person, by mail, or phone. They are not dependent on us, we are dependent on them. They are not an interruption to our work, they are the purpose of it. We are not doing a favor by serving them, they are doing us a favor by giving us the opportunity to do so … Just a thought to pass along……. Edward C. Rusch III
